Be a part of A/V

A/V Guild members have a largely invisible but vital role each Sunday: they make sure that all parishioners can hear and see what’s going on during services and forums. If you can navigate a DVR or adjust the volume on your car stereo, you have more than enough technical skill to operate our camera and microphones. Most volunteers serve once a month at the service they regularly attend. We’re especially looking for people who’d like to help with sound and recording at Sunday Forums. Contact Elizabeth Terry (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) for more information.

In Holy Week we receive the most important invitation of the year, to hear again the good news that God has reached into our lives in reconciling love through Jesus’ gift of himself. Jesus’ death on the Cross, and God’s action in raising him from the dead, have made him our living Companion and Savior. The gospel is always the same, but each year brings change in our lives, and the good news will come to us all in new and deeper ways.

Respond lovingly to God’s invitation. Set aside the time to join in worship for the Great Three Days, or Triduum, that begins on the evening of Maundy Thursday (April 5), moves through Good Friday (April 6) and to the Great Vigil of Easter on Saturday night (April 7). Open your heart to the gift God has prepared for you in each of these profound acts of worship.

service times and descriptions:

Palm Sunday (April 1)—The drama of Holy Week begins by reliving Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem and our taking part in the first reading of the account of Jesus' trial and crucifixion.

Maundy Thursday (April 5) In the first of the great three days of worship known as the Triduum, we gather to relive Jesus’ Last Supper, which gave rise to the Holy Eucharist, and allow the moving ceremony of Foot Washing to bring home his self-giving love.

Good Friday (April 6) We keep Christ company in his final hours through a dramatic reading of the gospel record of his trial and death on the cross. We have the opportunity to express our gratitude for his atoning death in the ceremony of reverencing the cross, and to receive the gifts of Holy Communion.

Holy Saturday (April 7) In this climax of the Christian year, we relive together the transition from darkness and sorrow to joy and hope in this dramatic celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. The lighting of the Easter candle, special readings from scripture, and the baptism of adult members, combine in the richest of all our celebrations of the Holy Eucharist.

Easter Day (April 8)—We celebrate Jesus' resurrection and his victory over the grave.
