Recent Updates

In observance of Labor Day, the Parish Office will close at noon on Friday, September 3 and remain closed on Mon., Sept. 6. As always, if there is a pastoral emergency, a clergy person is available through the pastoral on-call phone (202-669-4856).

Return to regular service schedule, office hours
After Labor Day, we will return to the regular Sunday worship schedule: eucharist at 8 am, 9 am, 11:15 am and 5 pm in the nave; eucharist for preschool children and their families at 9 and 11:15 am in the Great Hall. Regular office hours resume on Tues., Sept. 7: Monday - Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm; Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.

Watch your mail
The August newsletter was mailed on Thurs., Aug. 19. This represents our first mailing using a new database. Please check your label carefully to make sure the information is correct and complete. If you have any corrections, or if your newsletter does not arrive in a timely fashion, please contact Brindley Goodger (202-363-4119, ext. 210).

We need your help!
Please take a moment to complete our online form with current
e-mail addresses for each member of your family who has one. This simple step will ensure that we can communicate efficiently and in eco-friendly fashion with members of this community.

Sunday School registration
The Sunday School Registration form is now available at the Welcome table in the Common and on our website. Forms can be mailed in, left at the welcome table or given to Pattie Ames.

Youth updates
The Source is now online, with dates and information for upcoming youth events. Don’t forget to register on Sun., Sept. 12, for Sunday youth classes. Classes begin Sept. 19.

Solo Flight XX: One Is a Whole Number
This annual conference for Episcopal singles (unmarried, divorced or widowed) will be held in Richmond from Fri., Sept. 3. to Mon., Sept. 6, and will feature Jane Gentry Vance as keynote speaker. Please click here for more information and to register.

Would you like to teach Sunday School?
We need more volunteer teachers for several sessions throughout the year. Contact Pattie Ames (202-363-4119, ext. 222) for more details or sign up in the Common. Teaching is fun, easy and all materials are supplied. Our children need you!

THC Needs Donations
The Transitional Housing Corporation (THC), a faith-based organization that aims to reduce homelessness in D.C., is in urgent need of furniture and monetary donations to help furnish apartments for four homeless families. To donate, please click here or contact Andrew Adams.

Edith Eder
Please pray for the family of Edith Eder, who died July 10. A celebration of her life will be held on Sat., Sept. 18, at
St. Stephen and the Incarnation Church (1525 Newton St., NW). Further details will follow as they become available. The family wishes that any donations in Mrs. Eder’s name or memory be made to the Loaves and Fishes Program (525 Newton St. NW, Washington, DC, 20010).

Pastoral Care at St. Columba’s
We encourage you to let us know when an illness, death, transition or joyful event occurs in your life. During office hours, please contact Rob Boulter (202-363-4119, ext. 245). Before or after office hours you may contact a member of the clergy through the pastoral on-call phone (202-669-4856).

Stephen Ministries is our one-to-one care giving ministry, consisting of lay members of the parish who meet weekly with people who have experienced a loss, crisis or difficult life transition. If you are interested in receiving this ministry’s support, contact Rob Boulter (202-363-4119, ext. 245).

If you are unable to attend church services and would like to receive communion, contact Rob Boulter (202-363-4119, ext. 245). Stephen Ministers, Visiting Lay Eucharistic Ministers and clergy are available to provide this service.

Please send announcements to publicity@columba.org. The deadline for St. Columba Sunday (the Sunday wrapper) is Wednesday evening. We appreciate at least two weeks’ advance notice for parish group meetings.
