FRD: St. Columba’s in Transition
Dear St. Columban’s,
When we first announced Ledlie’s intention to retire, we spoke of the importance of a healthy transition. At that time, we did not specify precisely what would constitute a “healthy transition”, but this has been the focus of our prayers and efforts in these intervening months.
We write to provide an update.
Ledlie’s last Sunday as rector of St. Columba’s will be March 2, 2025 – the Last Sunday after the Epiphany. Between now and then, Ledlie is leading the way in our Annual Stewardship and special 150th Anniversary Capital Campaign. More to come about these campaigns. And we are beginning plans to honor, thank, and wish Godspeed to Ledlie.
The Vestry is fully engaged in the search for St. Columba’s next rector, has received applications from very promising candidates, and will be conducting interviews on a rolling basis.
Per diocesan guidelines, we are planning for an interim period of approximately three months between rectors. Note that, while an interim must be at least three months, this timeframe is fluid, depending upon the call and arrival of the new rector.
To lead St. Columba’s during this interim, the vestry is delighted to share that we have appointed the Rev. Dr. Joshua Daniel to serve as Interim Rector. During the interim season, currently expected to be March-June 2025, Joshua will work closely with the wardens and vestry; he will be vested with the full responsibility and authority customarily given to a rector.
Joshua is not a candidate to serve as St. Columba’s next rector. Diocesan guidelines only permit associates to become rectors if the vestry suspends the search for any other candidates. The hope and expectation of all involved is that with the arrival of a new rector, Joshua will continue his vital work and ministry here at St. Columba’s.
Joshua is thrilled and honored to be taking on this work.
Come to the Annual Parish Meeting on November 10 to learn more.
Mindful that seasons of transition invariably raise anxiety within us, we have engaged a wise consultant to support our clergy, staff, vestry and parish leaders to nourish health among the entire congregation. Consultant Susan Beaumont will gather with Congregational Leaders this Sunday. We are paying special attention and giving thanks for one another. Specifically, we put our trust in God and say our prayers. We are blessed with extraordinarily gifted and committed leaders in the vestry, the staff, and throughout our congregation. We rejoice in the vitality of our worship, ministry, and congregational life. And we are collectively inspired by our clear and compelling mission to Live God’s Love.
With gratitude to God and to each and all at St. Columba’s,
Ledlie Laughlin, Rector
Sara Glenn, Senior Warden
Gina Lagomarsino, Junior Warden
