Get Involved! Opportunities with Water Ministry, Washington Interfaith Network, and more!
WIN Ward 3 Summer Pop-up for Justice
When: Tuesday, July 12th at 4pm, sidewalk in front of Tenley-Friendship Library
Headlines got you feeling dispirited? Come renew your flagging spirits at our informal pop-up gathering on Tuesday, July 12th!
Stop by the sidewalk outside the Tenley Library (Wisconsin and Albemarle) any time between 4-6 PM to meet neighbors, celebrate WIN’s budget victories, and get inspired for the work ahead. We’ll have justice songs led by Sarah Curtin, readings of poetry and the Declaration of Independence, and remarks by local youth and clergy. You also can register to canvass in AU Park and Friendship Heights this summer on affordable housing, with students and other WIN Ward 3 congregations—including Adas Israel, Chevy Chase Presbyterian, GDS and Jackson-Reed high schools, National UMC, and Temple Sinai. We’d love to see you there! For further details, contact Elizabeth Vaden.
Volunteer with the Water Ministry
Your Water Ministry is in demand from Washington’s homeless. Our daily guest numbers are up threefold from a year ago and we are providing showers and laundry and a midday meal to between 10 and 15 guests a day. But we need more volunteers. There are opportunities to cook; to manage the showers and laundry; and to serve coffee and tea and meals to our guests. If you are interested and would like to know more, please contact Charles Taylor at 202-723-2463 or at [email protected] or Penny Ray at 202-669-8395 or at [email protected].
Become a lay reader!
Are you interested in becoming a reader during our services? Sign up here to read the Lesson and/or the Prayers of the People during a service this summer - no long-term commitment required. Contact Amy Molina-Moore with any questions.
Want to sing this summer?
Summer Singers is a pick-up choir that forms each Sunday during the summer to learn and sing special music for that morning’s worship. The group gathers in the music room at 9:45 am for a quick warm-up, and then prepares an offertory anthem to share at the 10:30 am nave service. Singers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to join the Summer Singers each Sunday continuing through the first week in September, or on any Sunday you are available!

Become a Columba Crew leader!
Planning is well underway for next year! Starting this Sunday, there will be a board in the Common and at Wee Worship so you can sign up to be a leader in a Columba Crew class next year!
- What is Columba Crew? Our Sunday morning program (because no one wants to go to school on Sunday!) for kids to wonder and explore God, Bible stories, love, service and everything that makes us Christians. Kids will meet in 3 classes: 3s and 4s; K and 1st; and 2nd and 3rd.
- What do leaders do? Work in teams of four adults to share the lesson with a class of kids. Leaders sign up for a slot in one class for a 6-8 week unit (approximately September - October or November - December).
- Do I have to be a Biblical scholar to be a leader? No! That's why you'll be a leader and not a teacher. You'll have a chance to wonder and learn even as you share a lesson from a detailed plan.
- How will I know what to do? Leaders will meet before each unit for a luncheon/training to get to know their team and learn about the lessons that will be covered and how to work with kids in our setting.
- How do we keep our St. C's kids safe? All leaders must complete a leader information form (new) and Safeguarding God's Children - child abuse prevention training online.
If you won't be at church and want to sign up or if you have any questions, you can reach Katie here.
