Mysticism class
Wednesday, October 23, 2024, 6:45 PM
Wednesdays 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm Rm 212
Can the limited nature of our language ever truly express what we call “God”? That God is both beyond us and also, somehow, within us is a mysterious claim deeply rooted in two thousand years of Christian writing and practices. God is always known and unknown. Both sown into the very fabric of creation and just beyond our grasp.
Beginning September 11th, after nearly every Wednesday Night Supper, Joshua Daniel will host a small group that will explore tradition. The group will use a collection of texts to orient and launch the discussion – though reading is not required to join. The group will open and close each week by practicing some of the ancient techniques that mystics have used to “know” God (mostly: silent and contemplative prayer!).
Politics got you stressed? Looking to spend an hour this Fall grounding yourself in the deep peace and love of God? Join us! Beginners welcome! Please email The Rev. Joshua Daniel if you'd like to join on zoom. Book: The Essential Writings of Christian Mysticism (edited by Bernard McGinn, Modern Library, 2006)
