Stirring the Waters

A Ministry for Racial justice that seeks to educate the parish and ourselves on the impact of racism and racial inequity, to confront white privilege, to promote interracial dialogue and to act against racial injustice

Housing Up

Housing Up builds thriving communities in Washington, DC by developing affordable housing and offering comprehensive support services to homeless and low-income families. They believe that people who have safe, affordable housing and genuine opportunities are empowered to transform their lives.

Since 1990, Housing Up has served DC’s most vulnerable families. They enable homeless and at-risk families to end the cycle of generational poverty by provide stable housing and opportunities for the entire family, including youth, to succeed.

Water Ministry

For many, the Water Ministry is our opportunity to love and serve the Lord in a real and tangible way. Volunteers shop for food and prepare hot meals for 25-35 guests, four times a week, 9 months of the year. We sign in guests, manage the schedule for showers, dispense towels and toiletries and do several loads of each day.

Grate Patrol

The Second Tuesday Grate Patrol, launched in March 2015, offers up food and fellowship in partnership with The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command, to people who are homeless and in need in seven-plus locations in downtown Washington from The Salvation Army’s canteen van. St. C’s takes its Grate Patrol name from the evening of the month (the second Tuesday) that St. Columbans serve the meals that other St. Columbans have purchased and prepared.

Zero Waste: St. Columba's Environment Committee

St. Columba's has taken the next big step in its goal to become a zero waste church. In the good company of many major organizations (Subaru, GM, Microsoft, DuPont), St. C's has adopted zero waste as a guiding principle for our waste management, but for Zero Waste to be more than just an aspiration, we need everyone to take part!

Joining a church doesn’t mean you don’t have big questions or doubts. Deciding to be part of a loving community of faith means you’re open to exploring and wrestling with those big questions and doubts. Most people here did not grow up in The Episcopal Church. Some have never been a member of any church. Many have a background in a different church or faith tradition. At St. Columba’s, there will be many opportunities to learn, ask questions, and get to know other pilgrims along the way. Our deepest hope is that everyone who steps through our doors knows they belong here.

A pledge is a promise - a promise to give a certain amount over the course of the following year. We don’t expect you to fulfill your pledge in one lump gift. Many find they can give more when pledging and then giving incrementally over the course of the year.

Pledging before the start of each calendar year is critical for clergy and staff to develop an annual budget and plan to serve you and our wider community.

Why Give? God asks us to share our time, talent and treasure. A life of generosity is at the root of Christianity. The Bible encourages the tithe – or 10% of your annual income – and we encourage you to think about what a meaningful gift would be for you.

When you give to St. Columba’s you help fund our ministry in the community, our worship, and the staff that supports our community as we strive to Live God’s Love.

Our mission is funded by you – St. Columbans and other supporters.

St. Columba’s is grateful for your generosity. We accepts gifts in the form of cash, checks, appreciated stocks, Charitable IRA Rollovers, Donor Advised Gifts, and matching gifts. If you would like to include us in your end-of-life charitable gift plans, we accept bequests, life income gifts, and gifts of special assets (real estate, closely held stock, life insurance).
