Craig Eder Library
Dedicated in 1995, the library is named for a beloved priest of the parish, the Rev. Craig Eder, associate rector emeritus. The Library has more than 6,000 titles for parishioners of all ages and interests, to serve all who seek to deepen their understanding of the Christian faith.
Our wide selection of religious books includes children's picture books, read-alouds, Bible stories and many youth books you might not think of as overtly spiritual, but have important messages about life and faith.
The Adult reference section features Bibles, concordances, dictionaries of theology, information on saints and other scholarly works. A section on spirituality features books on meditation and prayer, a series on Western spirituality and a fine collection of books on Celtic spirituality, as well as books covering topics such as grief, healing and parenting.
Located on the second floor near the Albemarle Street entrance, the library is open Sunday mornings and on weekdays during office hours. Stop by to browse our offerings or sit and read.
Library Procedures
The full library catalogue is available online, as well as in notebooks at the back of the library. To check out a book, please follow the directions posted by the checkout station. See the sidebar for instructions on using our online catalogue.
Book Donations
Book donations may be left in the bin just inside the library door. Donated used books are sorted and placed in the library collection, offered for sale on Hattie’s Cart and/or distributed through various ministries and parishes, both locally and abroad. The library is featured on Columba Day each year, when parishioners have the opportunity to donate a new book to the library.
Hattie's Cart
Located in the Common and the 2nd floor living room, Hattie’s Book Carts are a great source of reading material. This St. Columba’s tradition was begun in the 1950s by parishioner Hattie Elbe, who used a banged-up kitchen cart to display an eclectic assortment of parishioners' used books for sale. Please leave your money in the cash box provided; proceeds fund various church ministries.
