Annual Outreach Appeal: Support our community and the world
Thank you, thank you!
Hello St. Columba’s,
I write to you in appreciation and celebration as I look in the review mirror at this last year, and with excitement as we look to new adventures and journeys ahead!
It is time for our annual outreach campaign, and here is your chance to help us continue the good work that we have done and expand our impact even further this upcoming year.
Last year was a challenge for so many, and yet, the St. Columba’s family pulled together to have positive impacts on our community. With your help, together we:
- Raised over $50,000 in last year’s fundraiser for families at Housing Up for utility, food and rental assistance
- Distributed 160 hot meals monthly to men and women experiencing homelessness through Loaves and Fishes
- Supplied 110 meals monthly in partnership with the Salvation Army, through Grate Patrol, to men and women experiencing homelessness in Downtown D.C.
- Provide 40 snack-bags, twice a week for guests at Friendship Place
- Supplied over 5,000 masks to our neighbors in need
- Engaged in weekly 1:1 virtual tutoring sessions for K-8 students living at Housing Up: an opportunity for our teens and other parishioners to connect and build relationships with our neighbors
As we look forward to a new program year, we also look forward to new opportunities to Live God’s love in our community. Though we seem to be creeping towards,“post-COVID” life, the effects on our community have been deep. The pandemic has seen a 34% increase in homeless youth and a 21% increase in individuals experiencing chronic homelessness . The Capitol Area Food Bank saw an increase in demand of a whopping 97.8%.After conversations with some of our partners in the community regarding the needs and challenges specific to our community, among other things, this program year you can look forward to:
- The return of the Water Ministry in late June!
- Continued support to men and women facing homelessness in the District by way of food through Grate Patrol, Loaves and Fishes and the Friendship Place Lunch program
- Further relationship building with families at Housing Up’s Fort View apartments through intentional program development. This will include assisting with the kids’ garden, drives, mentoring opportunities and Spanish programming to help build relationships between Housing Up and the families, and family to family
With your ongoing support, we will continue to impact our community through our current ministries, and through new ones. We will continue to answer, “Yes, Lord, I am listening”. We will work together to be one Body of Christ.
Wishing you and yours an exciting Summer ahead,
