Racial Justice Pilgrimage
Racial Justice Pilgrimage to Alabama: February 15-19, 2024.
A parish pilgrimage to historically significant sites in our country's struggle for racial justice is planned for President's Day weekend 2024.
Open to adults and high-school age youth, the trip will offer an intergenerational experience affirming our commitment to become an anti-racist church. Coming as the season of Lent begins, the pilgrimage will be an opportunity to learn together, to feel together and to pray together in and near some of the places where racial injustice and violence have wounded our country. As we reflect on this legacy which we seek to repair, we will also give thanks for the courageous witness of those who have worked to resist and reverse injustice.
Our pilgrim group will pause each day for worship and reflection as we continue working to dismantle racism within ourselves and our communities. The pilgrimage will be an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God and with one another as we look forward with hope to bringing God's beloved community closer.
The "land-only" cost for the trip will be $1,677 per person, based on double occupancy, and includes entrance fees, lodging and breakfast and dinner on each day of the guided tour. The supplement to stay in a single room is $418. (Air fare will be additional; three airlines have daily flights from the Washington area to Birmingham.) Faith Journeys, the agency managing our trip, offers an "air-included" price of $2,197 per person. Full payment will be due December 1, 2023.
